A Tarantula Festival? Yes, really! Who knew?!

There’s nothing I love more than serendipitously running across something different and fun. During my visit to Oakhurst this past weekend, I came across this cute town called Coarsegold. Situated in the California Gold Country foothills among the mighty oak trees, this tiny town has maintained its California Gold Country roots and feels like a step back in time.

Washington, DC | The Beauty of Fall

What could be more appropriate than celebrating the beauty of Fall from our Nation’s Capitol in Washington DC? If you haven’t experienced Fall on the East coast, then you are truly missing out on an incredible sight ~ this is nature at its best. These images are from my trip almost exactly one year ago, but the beauty of Fall on the East coast is timeless. (click on any image to enlarge)

Fairmont Mayakoba, Riviera Maya

@2014 Susan Edel

On a spontaneous walk down the beach from the Rosewood Mayakoba, I came to the next resort, the Fairmont Mayakoba. I decided to take a look around and just happened to stumble upon the pool and bar. It was a perfect pit stop for a happy hour margarita. I was even able to charge it to my room at the Rosewood, doesn’t get any more convenient than that! Cheers!

Hawaii | Big Island

During my visit to the Big Island, I stayed at the Four Seasons Hualalai (see post here) which was an amazing experience as it is one of the best beach resorts I have ever been to. The resort truly evokes the epitome of “old school” Hawaii. However, what really made the trip a success was experiencing the island and all it has to offer.

So having said that, here is No Ordinary Resort’s Top Ten Must Do’s on the Big Island.

1. Take an Outrigger Canoe Ride.

Nothing screams Hawaii more than an Outrigger Canoe. I was enamored with the unique shape and look of it, and I found it really easy to paddle (with the help of the two men on-board). There is nothing I love nothing more than gliding around the water and enjoying the surrounding wildlife. We took the time to jump off the canoe and snorkel for awhile, spotting some sea turtles being “cleaned” by fish who nibble on the algae on their back.
